Study Space
As Western’s largest library, The D.B. Weldon Library offers the widest variety of seating areas and options for all your study and work needs.
Bookable Study Rooms
Weldon offers reservable group study rooms with media equipment on the Ground floor, Mezzanine, and Second floor. Please note that bookings are limited to a maximum of two hours per day.
There are also group study rooms on the third and fourth floors without media equipment. These rooms are offered on a first come first served basis.
Conversation Friendly Zones
Weldon has over 900 study spaces where you’re free to talk to your friends and classmates across several floors, including:
- The Main floor
- The Mezzanine (between the main and second floor)
- The Second floor
- The inner study room on the Third floor
These areas feature a wide range of different seating options to suit a range of preferences, from casual couches and armchairs to booth seating to long divided study tables. There are also computer stations on both the Main Floor and the 2nd Floor. Cellphone use and music with headphones are allowed.
Quiet Study Zones
There are around 300 spaces where Quiet group work and independent work can be completed in the following areas:
- Most of the Ground floor, including the Map and Data Centre
- The quiet study area on the Second floor
- On most of the Third floor
These zones feature a mix of comfortable chairs and banquette seats on the ground and second floor, with more traditional tables and carrel seating on the third floor. Computer stations are also available within the Map and Data Centre on the Ground floor. Cellphones are to be set to vibrate and only music with headphones is allowed.
Silent Study Zones
Over 450 silent study spaces can be found on the Fourth floor or in the silent study hall on the Ground floor– no talking is allowed here. Cellphones are to be set on vibrate, and only music with headphones is allowed.
Day-use Study/Research Rooms
There are a limited number of dedicated rooms reserved for faculty and graduate students that are available to be booked for the entire day.
Rooms can be accessed by showing a Western ONECard to the staff at the Info Desk. Rooms are offered on a first come first served basis.
The D.B. Weldon Library also offers a limited number of assigned individual research/study spaces for eligible applicants, which can be applied for on a per-semester basis.
Graduate Study Room
Located on the Fourth floor, Room 439H, the Graduate Study Room is a silent study space solely for graduate students. No talking is allowed, cellphones must be set to silent, and music use with headphones is allowed. The room offers a number of two-seater tables for all your focused studying needs. Ask at the Info Desk near the entrance for the room code.
Family Room
Located on the Mezzanine, The Weldon Family Room is a space for parents to work and study with their children. The room offers a work table, couch, child-sized furniture, and access to a television and outlets.
Individuals can use this space only when they are accompanied by their child/children. Children must be supervised at all times while in this space.
