Community Collections

Community Collections are curated lists of library resources that have been created in partnership between a member of the Western community and a Western Libraries Collections and Content Strategies (CCS) Librarian.

Current Community Collections include:

The CCS team welcomes proposals for collaborations on curated collections that will be digitally displayed on the Western Libraries website. Community Collections include diverse and timely topics relevant to the Western community and can include digital and / or physical items.

Community Collections are typically displayed online through Omni, however, a Community Collection may be put up as a temporary physical display within Weldon Library. For more information about physical displays, review the Western Libraries Displays Policy

When there is a new Community Collection, Western Libraries will share this on the library website and on our social media channels.

How to propose a new Community Collection

Any Western faculty, staff, and student can submit a proposal for a Community Collection.

To propose a Community Collection, we need;

  • A description of the theme, topic, or subject.
  • Objectives for the collection.
  • A starting list of items (books, e-books, etc.) for the collection.
  • If applicable, let us know if there is an interest in having a physical display within Western Libraries.

Submit a COMMUNITY COLLECTIONS PROPOSAL FORM

The CCS team will receive and review your submission. If your proposal has been approved, a CCS staff member will contact you to advise you of the next steps on collaborating with a Librarian to create the Community Collection. You will need to meet with the Librarian to discuss book lists, visuals, marketing, and other collection details.

If you have any questions, contact the CCS team at wlccsteam@uwo.ca.
