Guidelines for Posters
Recognizing the role of Western Libraries as a campus community hub, the following guidelines have been developed for hanging posters in campus libraries.
- Posters must relate to a university-related activity or event or convey information about university-related organizations to be posted in a library. Examples include posters advertising a service provided by a Western department, posters advertising an event sponsored by an officially sanctioned student group, or posters seeking participants for a Western-affiliated research study.
- Non-English posters require an English translation to confirm the content meets the criteria for posting.
- Due to limited space, posters 8.5x11 or smaller are preferred, however larger posters will be considered. Only one poster for the same event will be posted per board.
- Posters not posted in designated areas will be removed and discarded. This includes flyers distributed throughout libraries. Designated areas are as follows:
Library Designated Area Weldon Library Bulletin board in front lobby adjacent Security Desk Taylor Library Bulletin boards in stairwells Business Library Poster rail by printers Law Library Bulletin board at library entrance, bulletin board by printers Music Library Bulletin board at library entrance, on the right - Posters can be dropped off at any Library Info Desk. The typical turnaround time for posting is 1-2 days.
- Approved posters will be dated the day they are posted on the top right-hand corner and will be posted for 3 weeks prior to the date of the event being advertised, or, for non-events, for a maximum of 3 weeks.
- Western Libraries is not responsible for the content of posters produced by campus groups.
- Western Libraries will remove and dispose of expired posters. Any posters posted outside of designated areas in a library, e.g. taped to windows, doors, walls, or exterior surfaces, will be removed and discarded by library staff.
