Green Audit Project

Sustainability is a global imperative and an expressed strategic goal of Western University, as outlined in the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Western University's Towards 150 Strategic Plan.  In 2020 and 2021, Western University was recognized by the Times Higher Education Impact Ranking as one of the greatest contributors to sustainability research and teaching on the planet.

While there is significant research on how libraries play a role in sustainability overall, there is little research on sustainability through the lens of collections development. By using the “Three E’s of Sustainability” framework--Equity, Ecology and Economy--our team's research will examine the broad social, environmental and economic impacts of library collections development. Working within the framework will ensure our research is scalable, widely understood, and accepted across industry sectors and institutions.
