Alternative Format Text

Western Libraries is pleased to provide alternative format text of Western Libraries' holdings to students of Western and the Affiliated University Colleges (Huron, King's) and St. Peter's Seminary who are blind, have low vision or who have a learning or mobility disability. This service is provided in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act. See more information about Accessibility@Western (including legislation).

To be eligible for this service, students must be registered with Accessible Education. Please note that requests for alternate format copies of course textbooks should be referred to Accessible Education. Staff and faculty must be registered with Human Resources (Employee Well-being) to be eligible.

To request library material in an alternate format please complete the following online form. A printable PDF version of the form is also available and may be returned to any Library service desk.

  • Book requests should include Title, Author, Edition/Year of Publication, Publisher, ISBN.
    Article requests should include Author(s), Article Title, Article Source (i.e. Journal Title), Volume, Issue, Pagination.

    • Requests will be processed within 2 weekdays of receipt. Unless otherwise requested, alternative text will be emailed to the email address provided above.
    • Please note that due to the fragile and/or rare nature of some library materials, particularly those held in Western Archives, it may not be possible to produce an alternate format text copy. In the event you require alternate format text of fragile/rare materials held by Western Libraries every effort will be made to produce a suitable alternative copy that does not compromise the integrity of our resources.

    Personal information contained on this form is collected under the authority of the University of Western Ontario Act, 1982 (as amended) and will be used by Western Libraries and/or one of the libraries of the Affiliated University Colleges to determine eligibility for alternative format text services and to process requests for specific items.
