Professional Biography

I am a Teaching and Learning Librarian working with STEM disciplines. Working together with faculty, I provide instruction on the research process and create tailored assignments related to the library and research skills. My expertise is in systematic review methodology and the design of search strategies for systematic reviews, scoping reviews, and other knowledge syntheses. Prior to this role, I was a Clinical Librarian at London Health Sciences Centre.

Education

  • BA Honours, English Language and Literature, Queen's University
  • BA, Communications Studies, Brock University
  • MA, Media Studies, Western University
  • MLIS, Western University

Research Interests

My current research interests include systematic review methodology in STEM disciplines and librarians' roles in hospital quality improvement. I also enjoy partnering with faculty on systematic and scoping reviews.

Teaching Philosophy

Teaching is a reciprocal relationship. I strive to make the research process less daunting for students and empower them to develop confidence as scholars and researchers. To accomplish this, I leave space for students to process their emotional responses to research. Using Kolb's experiential learning cycle, I encourage students to critically reflect on their experiences and anticipate where they need to go in the future. Knowledge is not something that learners have but something they put into action. I build opportunities into my teaching for practising skills, engaging with concepts, and reflecting critically on the outcomes. This way I can make my teaching meaningful to learners' unique needs, context, or experiences.
